Please understand
I’m not leaving you
Because I don’t love you
I’m leaving because
You are trying
To change me
And honey
I’ve climbed mountains
Burned down bridges
Won wars
To be who I am today©
I braced your back
Against my hands
As I poured my words over you
Poetry tracing the shape
Of your body
Tasting
Needing
The light, warm and sweet
Between your soul
A solitary longing
Coming undone
The night is broken
Screaming out our need
In reckless abandonment©

I choose the darkness
The late lament of my soul
Held me hostage
Pain dropped in my bones
Paralyzed my love for you
Your existence pierced
My reality
And I’m left to
Curate my pain in silence©

I like that
Your soul is quite
That you know
Who you are
Loving the parts
Of you that are unloveable
Embracing the scars
And the darkness
That once tormented you
You’ve found peace in chaos
And vulnerability
In your courage
To accept change
And that is a beautiful thing©

You are no mere poet
You my love
Is purity and poison
You are a lover
A healer of brokenness
You purged the pain
Of lost souls
Your words have filled
The empty cavity
Between my breast
You are a sonneteer
A lyricist
I have stitched your words
Into my soul
And my heart implodes
With beauty

Dawn breaks
With jagged breath
The chill settled
In hearts too cold
To feel pain
And eyes too bitter
To see the stars
And stripes
Weeping©
